What a gorgeous weekend! After a few days of heavy rain, we've been rewarded by just the most beautiful fall weather, and we spent a lot of it outdoors. On Saturday we had a fun trip to Lake Mohawk, and today we went to some farms in Chester and Long Valley. Alstede (Chester) was a complete ZOO, and we were really disappointed that most of the animals are gone now, replaced with more gimmicky kid stuff that you have to pay for. We left there pretty quickly and headed to Ort Farm down the road, which was soooo much nicer!! So many different animals, loads of fun things for the kids to explore, and a really fantastic hayride pulled by a big huge tractor out into a faraway pumpkin patch. We didn't get off to pick pumpkins, just rode the whole loop at once, and we especially loved when the tractor had to drive straight through these fantastic monster puddles. Best of all, the hayride was only $1 per person - nice to see a place that isn't trying to milk people at every turn. It was loads of fun, so glad we went. We brought home fresh corn, lovely apples, cider, and pumpkin butter!
